Lenovo sets up ASEAN, India headquarters in SingaporeChinese computer giant Lenovo said it had chosen Singapore as its regional headquarters for operations in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and India. Lenovo, which formally announced on May 1 it had acquired IBM's personal computing (PC) division for 1.75 billion dollars, said Singapore would also be its global hub for sales support, supply chain control and global treasury. "Locating our international sales support center in Singapore, alongside our supply chain control center for PCs, will allow us to further our mission of delivering high-quality products and world-class service to our customers while also benefiting from the operational efficiencies this location provides." The Singapore government's Economic Development Board (EDB) said the decision reflected the city-state's growing reputation as a hub for international business and investment. "It (also) shows with our multicultural and multilingual workforce, we are well positioned to play a bridging role between the East and the West," EDB chairman Teo Ming Kian said. The statement said Lenovo would employ an estimated 180 people for its Singapore operations. The Lenovo-IBM deal has created the third-largest personal computing company in the world. Lenovo said on May 1 the new company would have combined annual personal computer revenue of approximately 13 billion dollars and volume of about 14 million units. The executive headquarters of the new Lenovo is in Purchase, New York, the site of IBM's own head office. The company has said it will employ 19,000 people worldwide.
