US-Based Astra Business Services Opens Bpo Facility in India

DEHRADUN, Feb 2 Asia Pulse - The US-based Astra Business Services on Wednesday opened its BPO facility here, the first in Uttaranchal and the company's largest in the country.

The facility was set up with an investment of US1 million to serve clients back home.

The facility, which is part of the company's regional expansion strategy, will hire over 500 people. "We have already hired 50 to 60 employees who are being trained in our centres at Gurgaon," Astra Chief Financial Officer Mukul Agarwal said after Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari inaugurated the centre.

Half of the company's workforce at the centre would comprise women, Agarwal said.

The facility would be equipped with executive offices, training facilities and state-of-the art IT infrastructure.

Agarwal said the new employees would not only be imparted with world-class training, but also be paid salaries on par with the industry.

The company would initially spend nearly US$8,000 on each of its employees, he said.
