UK Baby Product Brand Tommee Tippee to Expand Into India

LONDON, May 31 Asia Pulse - Tommee Tippee, one of the United Kingdom's best-known baby product brands, plans to expand into India to cash in on the booming market.

Nish Kankiwala, Chief Executive of its parent company Mayborn said: "Apart from nappies, there is no global super-brand for babies. I think Tommee Tippee has the potential to be one."

His comments came after an unprecedented week for deals in the baby products sector. First, there was the sale of Avent, which makes baby bottles, to Philips, the Dutch electronics group, for 460 million pounds (US$865 million).

This was followed by the sale of Mayborn to a private equity company 3i, which has recruited consumer goods veteran Kankiwala to head the company. The deal valued Mayborn at 116 million pounds.

Kankiwala, who used to run PepsiCo Europe, said the company hoped to make the most of the "highly fragmented" baby products market, especially in India and China.
