Philippines Records 7.1 PCT Rise in Jan-April Visitor Arrivals

MANILA, June 18 Asia Pulse - Visitor arrivals for the first four months this year reached the one million mark, a 7.1 per cent increase over last year, the Philippine Department of Tourism (DoT) reported.

Records show January had the biggest volume of tourist arrivals with 272,525 while March recorded the highest growth of 15.1 per cent.

The East Asian region maintained its position as the largest contributor of arrivals by region, accounting for 45.9 per cent of overall arrivals.

This region posted an increase of 5.5 per cent from 449,598 the previous year to 474,507 arrivals.

The combined total of 239,285 arrivals supplied by North American countries made this region the second biggest source of arrivals for the Philippines.

It grew by 3.3 per cent as compared to 231,670 arrivals the previous year.

The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region contributed 7.1 per cent (73,572 arrivals) to total visitor volume to rank third while Australasia/Pacific provided 50,952 arrivals to rank fourth.

Visitors from Western Europe increased by 9.0 per cent as arrivals reached 46,604 compared to 42,771 arrivals a year ago.
