Number of Visitors to Indonesia up 15.7%

IN FIRST QUARTER

JAKARTA, May 5 Asia Pulse - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) the number of foreign visitors to the country rose 15.7 per cent to 1.41 million in the first quarter of this year from 1.22 million in the same period last year.

In Mach alone the number of the visitors increased 13.3 per cent to 502,000 year-on-year, BPS director Sasmit Hadi Wibowo said.

Bali remains the most visited destination with arrivals totaling 446,900 recorded at the Nugrah Rai International Airport.

Most visitors are Asians from Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.

The government hopes to chalk up seven million arrivals and earn US$6.3 billion from the sector this with the Visit Indonesia Year 2008 program launched recently by the government.
