Vietnam's Dong Thap to Get Eight More Seafood Processing Plants

HANOI, May 6 Asia Pulse - An additional eight seafood processing factories will be built in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap in 2008 in response to the rapid development of the local fisheries industry.

Once fully operational, these factories will bring the province's total seafood processing establishments to 16 with a total capacity of 200,000 tonnes of seafood per year.

Local seafood producers have so far this year turned out 56,000 tonnes of aquatic products and exported nearly US$58 million worth of seafood, a year-on-year increase of 118.2 per cent.

In 2008, the province has targeted production of 66,000 tonnes of aquatic products and export of US$200 million worth of seafood.
