Sales of Imported Cars in South Korea Jump 48.4% in April

SEOUL, May 8 Asia Pulse - Sales of imported automobiles in South Korea jumped 48.4 per cent from a year earlier to 6,153 units in April, an industry group said Thursday.

The April sales also represented a 6.4 per cent rise from March, said the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association.

On Wednesday, the country's five local automakers reported an 11.4 per cent jump in their combined domestic sales last month, according to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers' Association.

Since late last year, Honda Motor Co. (TSE:7267) has kept its No. 1 spot as the most popular foreign car brand in South Korea.

Last month, Honda topped the ranking with 1,165 vehicles sold, followed by BMW AG with 903 units and Mercedes-Benz with 760 units.
