Indonesia to Raise Oil Output to 1.2 Million BPD by 2010

BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan, May 8 Asia Pulse - The Indonesian government intends to increase the country's crude oil production by 200,000 barrels to 1.2 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2010, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said.

"I think we will be able to raise our crude oil production to 1.2 million barrel per day by 2010 as we have adequate oil resource potential," he said at a dialog with employees of state oil and gas company Pertamina's processing unit in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday.

Indonesia had large potential to raise its oil production to meet its rising consumption, he said.

"We have so far been able to export oil. The market for our oil is already clear. In this country of 220 million population, we will not lose the market," he said.

Indonesia's crude oil production currently stood at 1 million bpd while its oil consumption reached 1.2 million bpd, he said.

Meanwhile, Rukmi Hadiartini, director of Pertamina's processing unit, said domestic fuel oil supplies had so far originated from the company's seven refineries. They include Dumai refinery with a production capacity of 170,000 bpd, Musi refinery (130,000 bpd), Balongan refinery (120,000 bpd), Cilacap refinery (300,000 bpd), Balipapan refinery I (60,000 bpd) and Balikpapan refinery II (200,000 bpd).

"The Balikpapan refineries I and II alone supply 25 per cent of the national oil consumption," she said.
