Bangladesh Govt Urged to Help Silk Industry in Budget

RAJSHAHI, May 12 Asia Pulse - Speakers at a discussion here Sunday demanded special allocation for Rajshahi silk industry in the national budget to protect the country's sericulture industry.

Barind Unnayon Prachesta and Reshom Shilpa Sartha Sangrakhshan Committee arranged the discussion at GDRC auditorium.

Rajshahi Silk Industry workers Union president M Ataur Rahman presided over the function while Bangladesh Silk Industry Owners association Rajshahi unit president Manjur Faruk Chowdhury, its former president Liakat Ali, Rajshahi Rakhsha Sangram Parishad convenor Jamat Khan and silk farmers participated the discussion.

Coordinator of Barind Unnayon Prachesta presented a keynote paper.

The speakers said if the government extends support to the silk farmers it would play a significant role in the country's poverty alleviation.

Mentioning its huge potentials, they said there has a huge demand of silk cloth in the country as well as the global market.

They also said the country's silk industry would be able to make its access to the world market like China if government patronizes the silk farmers.
