Taiwan Tourism Show Set to Launch May 16

TAIPEI, May 15 Asia Pulse - One of the two biggest travel fairs in the country - the Taiwan Tourism Exposition - is set to launch on May 16, in a bid to boost the tourism industry of Taiwan and participating countries, the event organizer said Wednesday.

According to Peter Ting, assistant chairman of the Taipei Association of Travel Agents, which is co-organizing the event with the Travel Agent Association of ROC (Taiwan), 150 tour agencies, operators, and tourism offices of foreign countries will join in the event, with some 350 exhibition booths.

"We hope the four-day exposition, which is expected to attract more than 60,000 visitors, will provide the general public with more options as they plan their upcoming summer vacation," Ting told a CNA reporter.

The fair is to be held in the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 3 from May 16-19, between 10:00 a.m. and 18:00 p.m.

Yazaki Makoto, marketing officer of the Japan Tourism Association Taiwan Office, said he hoped that participating in the fair would enhance Taiwanese people's understanding of his country.

Many places in Japan are still unknown to local tourists although Japan is one of the most popular destinations for Taiwanese people, according to Makoto.

"Most people have already visited the big cities in Japan, such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Hokkaido ... but in other Japanese prefectures, there are a lot of cuisines, beautiful scenery, and culture that are worth enjoying," said Makoto.

In order to lure more people to visit the fair and to promote the tourism industry, the participating agencies and foreign tourism offices, including those from Japan, Malaysia, Canada, the United States, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Macau, will also offer a variety of special packages with big discounts.

Lucky draws, as well as forums on tourism, are also to take place alongside the exhibition, said the organizers.
