HANOI, May 15 Asia Pulse - The construction of an express railway system that links Hanoi with Vinh city in central Nghe An province will cost nearly US$12.3 billion.

The cost was released in the final report of a feasibility study on the Hanoi-Vinh segment of the North-South railway route that the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Korea Railroad Research Institute and ChungSuk Company of the Republic of Korea (RoK) handed over to the Vietnam Railway Administration in Hanoi on May 13.

Under the project, the 334.2 km railway segment between Hanoi and Vinh will include seven stations, 212 bridges and underground segments combining to 14 km in length. On completion in 2020, it will enable trains to run at a speed of 200 km/h.

The final report of the feasibility study was conducted by the three RoK agencies from November 2006 to May 2008 in collaboration with the Vietnam Railway Administration and the seven localities that the railway runs through.
