Indonesia-China Business Forum Opens in Jakarta$all $id $cn $eco JAKARTA, May 16 Asia Pulse - An Indonesia-China Investment Forum was officially opened in Jakarta on Thursday to provide businessmen from the two countries to explore economic cooperation possibilities.
Indonesian Ambassador to China Sudrajat in his address at the forum's opening said 172 Chinese businessmen representing around 102 companies were taking part in the event. "Businessmen from the two countries had shown great enthusiasm to attend the forum," Sudrajat said. He said the business makers attending the forum showed their great enthusiasm because of the two countries' potential for doing business. China is actively expanding its investment in foreign countries while looking for market opportunities and primary raw materials for its industrial perpetuity, while Indonesia, in addition to having primary raw materials, was also a potential market for China. "Chinese investment value in Indonesia continues to increase, although it is below that of the United States, Japan, and South Korea," Sudrajat said. Before leaving for Jakarta, Sudrajat said in Beijing on Monday that Indonesian government wanted to organize such a forum to net as many Chinese investors as possible to invest in the country. He said after the China-Indonesia Investment forum was over, the businessmen from China would visit several industrial areas in Karawang and Cikampek in West Java to explore business opportunities there. Sudrajat also said Indonesia and China would soon establish a task force to optimize economic relations between the two countries. He said the task force would be made up of several departments in the two countries which focused on bilateral relations in the field of economy. "The two countries will soon sign an agreement on the establishment of the task force to focus more attention on economic relations in the fields of trade, investment, and tourism," Sudrajat said. He signaled that the signing of the task force establishment would be made in conjunction with China-Indonesia Investment Forum organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry in Jakarta from May 15-16, 2008.
