JAKARTA, May 16 Asia Pulse - Indonesia has so far succeeded in resisting the impact of the global economic slowdown posting a fairly strong growth of 6.3 per cent in its GDP in the first quarter of this year.

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said the strong growth succeeded in reducing unemployment rate to 8.46 per cent from 9.11 per cent in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, an official of the finance ministry said the performance in the first three months of this year had been almost precisely as projected by the government.

The 6.3 per cent growth was high amid the threat of global economic slow down, head of the Fiscal Policy Agency Anggito Abimanyu said.

A reversal, however, is feared in the second quarter with the government plan to raise the prices of subsidized fuels by the end of this month, a move, which has triggered big protests led by students.
