China's economy can keep growing nine pct: state media

China's economy can maintain annual growth of around nine percent in coming years, state media reported Tuesday, citing a senior economist at a government think tank.

Expanding industries and growing cities will continue to prop up economic growth, the Shanghai Securities News reported, citing Liu Shijin, vice director of the Development and Research Centre.

"China's economy is already in the fast lane, and with industrialisation and urbanisation still taking place, it has the potential to keep momentum for rapid growth," Liu was quoted as saying.

Economic growth in China slowed to 10.4 percent in the first half from 11.9 percent for all of 2007.

The slowdown has forced decision-makers in Beijing to list stable growth alongside controlling inflation as top economic priorities.
